PHIL 038. Origins of Indic Thought Cross-listed as CLST 28 Origins of Indic Thought is designed to give students a foundation in various major philosophical schools that have emerged in the Indian subcontinent by studying their origin stories. These schools include Buddhism, Jainism, Sāṅkhya, Yoga, Nyāya-Vaiśeṣika, Vedānta, and Sikhism. Students will learn the fundamental arguments that each school makes and understand the ongoing conversation between the various schools about the nature of and relationship between the Self, the World, and God. Prerequisite: First- and second-year students must complete one introductory level PHIL course before enrolling in this course. Humanities. 1 credit. Eligible for ASIA.
