ANTH 072D. Visual Anthropology This course introduces students to the history, theory, and practice of visual anthropology. Topics include the intertwined histories of colonial photography and anthropology, how anthropologists use visual ethnographic methods as tools of cultural analysis, and how indigenous groups and activists use contemporary visual technologies to gain visibility and to remake their social worlds. The course will include a series of film screenings, as well as a small production component. Theory and methods course. Social sciences. 1 credit. Eligible for FMST Spring 2019. Nadkarni.
