HIST 001B. First Year Seminar: Human Rights as History: From Haiti to Nuremberg This course takes the subject of human rights and sets it into historical motion. We will start with the Haitian Revolution in the late eighteenth century and end with the Nuremberg trials and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Topics to be explored also include women’s rights in the Ottoman Empire, anti-colonial movements in India, and the question of the relationship between human rights and capitalism. Social sciences.
